Nutritional requirements in acute kidney injury

Patients with acute kidney injury are often very ill and their metabolisms under great stress, resulting in the need for extra calories and extra protein. The renal team needs be alert to these patients' nutritional requirements in order to support their immune system function, accelerate recovery and reduce mortality. An early dietary intervention by the renal team may prevent malnutrition-even death.
